3M 4000 Series Respirators Fitting Instructions
3M 4000 series respirators are lightweight, low profile and have well balanced design. The textured face seal minimises slippage and improves comfort. It is important to make sure the respirator is properly fitted to get full protection.
This video shows how to correctly fit the 3M 4000 series maintenance free re-usable respirator. These instructions cover the models: 3M 4255, 4251, 4277 and 4279.
Fitting instructions:
The instructions are summarised as follows. Please watch the video for full instructions:
- Make sure you are clean-shaven. Facial hair interferes with the seal.
- Long hair and jewellery should be removed.
- When opening the bag, ensure that you do not damage the resealable strip.
- Inspect the respirator for damage before use.
- Adjust the head cradle if necessary
- Fit the respirator over the bridge of your nose
- Pull the head harness over the crown of your head.
- Hook the bottom straps around the back of your neck
- Pull on the top harness straps to get a snug fit
- Pull on the plastic rings to secure the straps adjustment
- Do a fit check on the seal of the respirator before entering the work place
If you cannot achieve a proper fit, inform your supervisor and do not enter the hazardous area.
Clean the respirator at the end of each shift with respirator cleaning wipes. Dry at room temperature and store in the original packaging or a sealed container.
Limitations:
It is important to consider the limitations of the 3M 4000 series respirators.
- Do not use in potentially explosive environments, atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen, confined spaces (lack of ventilation), or where the contaminant concentration is above the protection limit defined for 4000+ user instructions.
- Never modify or alter this product
- Do not switch on the Cool Flow Fan before you have donned the 4000+ respirator, with the fan attached
