3M Coronavirus Response Statement 9 Nov 2020
IMPORTANT ACCOUNCEMENT: DISPOSABLE RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
3M has responded in multiple ways to the coronavirus pandemic. They have
significantly increased global respiratory production and 3M is working with governments, health agencies, distributors and others to prioritize supplies to the most critical customer and public health needs.
3M have also implemented additional controls on their order fulfillment system that are intended to help promote broad product availability across all 3M authorized distribution channels.
However, even with 3M’s accelerated production combined with capacity from other manufacturers, the demand for N95 and other respirators continues to exceed supply. In addition, 3M is facing export restrictions that impact 3M’s ability to supply respirators, including among others the temporary final rule implemented by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) establishing export restrictions on certain types of personal protective equipment (PPE).
This export restriction impacts 3M’s ability to supply certain respirators sourced from their manufacturing operations in the U.S. to customers outside the U.S until at least until 31 December 2020.
Given the general increase in the global demand for respirators, not only within the healthcare sector but also within other sectors such as the general industry, it is expected that this will continue to have an impact on the availability of certain disposable respirators even after these export restrictions have been lifted.
In light of the above, we hereby inform you that the disposable respirators indicated below, will not be available for distribution in Sub-Saharan Africa until the end of 2021.
